September was a month of deep reflection, challenges, and resilience. With everything that’s unfolded this year, it felt like the perfect storm of obstacles and moments of clarity. Here’s a look at what September brought my way.
Contract Conclusion and Changes in Support
The month began with a significant shift Shebin my COO contract ended, which meant I now had one less pillar of support in my professional life. It was a bittersweet change, knowing that I would need to adapt and find new ways to manage the load. With this transition, I found myself re-evaluating my goals and reshaping my plans for the future.
Drafting a Three-Year Goal Plan
After everything that has transpired this year, I decided it was time to take control and draft a comprehensive three-year goal document. This exercise was both cathartic and empowering, allowing me to map out what I want my future to look like and how I plan to get there. The past months have shown me that without a clear vision, it’s easy to get swept up in the chaos. Now, with a plan in hand, I feel a renewed sense of direction.
You know soon after drafting and planning my life out for the years to come, I got some unexpected and somber piece of news. An ex was shot during an attempted robbery. He underwent two successful surgeries and seemed unfazed. It was a stark reminder of life’s unpredictability and the fragility of safety. Although we’ve both moved on, hearing about his ordeal hit close to home. It made me pause and think about the fleeting nature of life and the importance of valuing the moments we have.
The Never-Ending Forex Challenges
If I thought August’s USD challenges were rough, September decided to up the ante. More forex issues came crashing down. An additional stressor was related to helping a friend, Nicholas, who is finishing his studies in medical school in Gregoria, Europe. As a native Trinidadian, he’s faced the same struggles as the rest of us when it comes to USD wires—his personal bank account doesn’t get preference. To help him out, I usually wire his school fees in USD, and he repays me in TTD. But with the ongoing forex crisis, I’m genuinely afraid he might be forced out of his program due to delayed payments. The thought of that is a constant worry.
As if forex issues weren’t enough, this month also saw rising tensions with one particularly frustrated customer, Floyd. The delays caused by the forex situation had pushed him to the brink, and he’s not just venting his frustration at me but also threatening the people who referred him to me. Managing his expectations and trying to keep everyone calm has been exhausting. This is more than just business—it’s become a test of patience and diplomacy. The situation is a stark reminder of how crucial systemic change is for businesses to thrive.
In a bid to channel some of my stress and focus on self-care, I joined a weight loss challenge this month. Ironically, I’ve been the only person managing to gain weight in a weight loss challenge. If there was a prize for that, I’d be the undefeated champion. Jokes aside, it’s been a reminder that life sometimes has a way of throwing curveballs, even when you think you’re on track. But I’m committed to turning things around and using this challenge as motivation to take better care of myself.
Looking Back at September
September was a month that tested my resolve in more ways than one. The end of a contract, a close call for someone I once knew, the weight of forex struggles, and customer tensions pushed me to the edge. Yet, it was also a month that reminded me of the power of resilience and the importance of looking forward with hope and intention. My three-year goal plan is now my anchor, guiding me through the uncertainty and helping me navigate whatever comes next.
Here’s to finding strength, even when the odds are stacked against you.
